Former Sting Player Goldobin Scores In Canucks Debut, Gets Benched

Canucks fans are instantly in love with former Sting forward Nikolay Goldobin after he scored in his debut with the team:

The same fans are also calling for the team to fire coach Willie Desjardins for what he did to Goldobin afterwards. After that goal was scored at the 12:43 mark of the 2nd period, Goldobin only saw 24 more seconds of ice time for the rest of the game. 5:51 was his total for the contest.

It didn’t take long for #FireWillie to trend on Twitter in the Vancouver area

You can make the case that Vancouver had to kill a few penalties in the third period and Goldobin was understandably not on a PK line, but that explanation isn’t satisfying Canucks fans one bit.

Many are saying he could go on to become the team’s new premier scorer. Some comparisons are being drawn to legend Pavel Bure. It’s likely too soon to start talking like that, but with what Goldobin did in less than 6 minutes of ice time is enough to get fans on the west coast excited about the team’s future.

Congratulations, Nikolay! Here’s hoping we see many more great highlights from you like this one.
