  • Sting Host West Division Leading Whalers

POSTED BY Rob on January 8th, 2012

The Sting would host the West division leading Plymouth Whaler’s at the RBC Centre, the Whalers coming into Sunday afternoons game on a 5 game win streak, and winners of 10 of their last 11.

The Sting would score the games first goal, Alex Basso would put one past Wedgewood on a blast for the point on the powerplay, his 5th of the season and his 4th point against Plymouth in just 2 games this season. The Sting would look to be dominating the Whalers, leading 1-0 after 1 and having a 10-4 edge in shots.

Plymouth however would tie it in the 2nd period as Alex Aleardi would solve JP Anderson. The Sting would get a plethera of powerplay opportunities through out this game, but Alex Basso’s blast in the 1st would be the only PP chance they would bury going 1 for 10 against the OHL’s 2nd best penalty kill. The Whaler’s would get a break 5 minutes into the 3rd, Charlitti unable to get it deep, the Whalers start back to the Sting zone, it looked as if Charlie Sarault had made a great defensive play getting back and knocking the puck away from the Whaler’s forward Beau Schmitz, but instead the puck landed on Mitchell Heards stick, where he made no mistake and put it over JP Andersons shoulder. Sting would lose this game 2-1 the final, despite some late 3rd period pressure with the man advantage and the net empty.
