  • Sting Lose 5-3 in Erie

POSTED BY Rob on December 17th, 2011

The Sarnia Sting would head out to Erie PA for the 2nd last game before the Christmas break, Otters are losers of their last 4 games, Sting are coming off a 5-3 win off Owen Sound.

The Sting would go down early in this game, trailing 2-0 after 1 and getting out shot 12-4 in the 1st period, but would slowly claw their way back into the game,as Brett Thompson and Nail Yakupov would both get goals in the 2nd period, each with their 21st goals of the season and end the 2nd period down 3-2. Jack Nevins would give the Sting a chance, tying the game on just his 4th of the season after a Yakupov shot was stopped, he would jam the puck into the net to tie it 3-3, Charlie Sarault would also get an assist, his 3rd of the game. The turning point in this game however, would be just past the midway point in the 3rd, DeAngelo would take a bad penalty, and the Otters would make him pay just 13 seconds into it, Nick Betz would give the Otters a 4-3 lead. Erie would add an empty netter and snap a 4 game losing streak with a 5-3 win, the 2nd time this season they have snapped a losing streak at the expense of the Sting, and just their 5th win of the year.

Sting are in Brampton Sunday afternoon, pre-game starts at 1:30, puck drops at 2pm on Country 1039 CHOK in the final game before the Christmas break.

  • Sting Hold on To Win 5-3

POSTED BY Rob on December 16th, 2011

The Sting would play the final home game of 2011 on Friday night, hosting the defending OHL Champions, again the Sting would be short some key players, Ludvig Rensfeldt and Nick Latta are off for the World Juniors, Connor Murphy, Brett Ritchie, Alex Basso and Ryan Kujawinski all sidelined with injuries.

The Sting would pull out a huge victory, as they would prove it is not the quanity of shots, but the quality of shots as they were badly out shot 43-26, and still managed a 5-3 win. Brandon Maxwell stood tall through out the night, including a 3rd period where the Sting would get outshot 21-4, and kept his team in front. Brett Thompson and Reid Boucher would both net 2 goals and an assist each, Thompson would also become the first Sting player to notch 20 goals on the season, Nail Yakupov would follow up with his 20th in the 2nd period, and would finish with an assist as well.

The Sting now head to Erie to take on an Otters team that has lost 3 straight, and will look for a measure of revenge for the 7-3 loss they suffered at the hands of the Otters on Dec 9th. Pre-game starts at 6:30pm on Country 1039 CHOK.
