Bible Reading a Success

It took up to 225 people, but Petrolia’s First Baptist Church was able to complete its read through the bible in 10 days.

Pastor Philip Kazek says most came back to read at least two times.

The project (April 26th to May 5th) was done as part of the church’s 140th anniversary celebrations.

Habitat for Humanity’s “ten million pennies to build a house” campaign is off to a good start.

The organization collecting several 5 gallon pails full of the copper coin so far.

Executive Director Sarah Reaume says they are collecting coins at a number of locations across Sarnia-Lambton.

Sarnia-Lambton’s Habitat for Humanity has committed to build 8 homes within the next year.

Ground was broken last month on the first two homes in Petrolia.


Rafferty Guilty on All Counts

Rafferty Guilty on All Counts

The jury in the trial of Michael Rafferty has returned guilty verdicts on all three charges against him in the kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder of Tori Stafford.

After deliberating beyond 9:00pm, jurors returned to the court room, and pronounced Rafferty guilty of first degree murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault causing bodily harm.

He will recieve an automatic life sentence.

Despite the automatic sentence that will be given to Rafferty, a sentencing hearing will be held May 15th, so victim impact statements can be heard.
