New MRI On Schedule

Bluewater Health’s new MRI will accept its first patient in a matter of days…..May 14th.    

 

 Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging Dr. Rishi Duggal says patients getting scans from the new imaging device may wait a bit longer as staff are trained by specialists from Siemens MRI.

Dr. Duggal says as staff are brought up to speed the old MRI will still be in service… to ensure the patient needs are met.  Bluewater Health plans to remove the old MRI from the hospital in early June.  It will be taken out through the main atrium…temporarily disrupting traffic flow, retail and food services at the hospital.

 A cross-border initiative is underway to rebuild spawning habitats for fish on the St. Clair River.      Michigan Sea Grant’s Jennifer Read speaks for a coalition of 27 Canadian and American organizations. Nine spawning reefs are being built in the river’s middle channel for lake sturgeon, walleye, and lake whitefish

Cobble and lime stone is being used for the reefs.

The Bluewater Anglers 36th Annual Salmon Derby ended on a good note with light winds, sunny skies, warm temperatures and cooperative fish. Both the number and size of fish caught during the 10 day event surpassed recent records.

There were 56 fish entered at the Sarnia weigh station and 147 fish entered at the Port Franks weigh station for a Salmon Derby total of 2089 fish entered.

The Daily Big Fish winner is Dustin Pugsly of Sarnia with a 18.04 pound salmon.

The Daily Draw winners are Kendal Thompson of Sarnia at the Sarnia weigh station and Mike Barchy of Wallaceburg at the Port Franks weigh station.
There were no changes in the leaders on the final day of the Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby.

The unofficial Salmon Derby winners in the Bluewater Anglers 36th annual Salmon Derby are …
- Jim Maxfield of Forest in the Salmon category with a 23.14 pound salmon,
- Scott Hunter of Belmont in the Trout – Boat category with a 12.88 pound rainbow trout,
- Kevin Hughes of Sarnia in the Trout – Shore category with a 10.82 pound rainbow trout,
- Heather Tieman of Dashwood in the Lake Trout category with a 17.82 pound lake trout,
- Mike Howie of Sarnia in the Walleye category with a 9.48 pound walleye,
- Lorin Elliot of Forest is the Kids Big Fish winner with a 13.40 pound salmon,
- Heather Tieman of Dashwood is the Ladies Day winner with a 17.82 pound lake trout,
- Greg Dubreuil of Sarnia is the Seniors Day winner with a 13.98 pound salmon.

The official winners will be announce following the Salmon Derby review meeting on May 8th.

The Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby Awards Night presentations will be held on Wednesday, May 16th at 7:30 PM at the Point Edward Arena & Community Centre.
