Bailey Expresses Suicide Concern

Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey is again pushing for implementation of a comprehensive provincial suicide prevention strategy.  Bailey rose in the Ontario Legislature this afternoon expressing concern about the latest teen suicides in this area.

Bailey is circulating a petition calling on the Health Minister to immediately implement the many remaining recommendations and create an umbrella agency to spearhead a provincial strategy.

The U-S Coast Guard is downplaying a shipboard fire on the St Clair River near Ferry Dock Hill this afternoon. (Tues) There was a smoke stack fire on the Bristol Bay during a training exercise.  Operations Unit Controller Jake Hauske.

No one was injured and damage to the ship was said to be minimal.

Casino Bill Passes Second Reading

The MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex says a divide in the Liberal caucus is allowing his private members bill to go ahead at Queen’s Park.  Monte McNaughton wants a local referendum held before a casino can be built within a municipality.  His bill passed second reading in the legislature last week and has been sent to a legislative committee for further debate.

McNaughton tells Blackburn News he’s “cautiously optimistic” his bill will be voted into law before the session at Queen’s Park ends June 7th.
