Happy “Haiku Poetry Day”, a celebration of  a traditional form of Japanese poetry.
Haiku poems consist of 3 lines.  The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and
the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.

BUT WHAT MOST OF US KNOW…ABOUT THE HAIKU DEFINITION –IS FROM.. WAYNE’S WORLD…

“Does this seem weird to anybody else? I mean, we’re looking down on Wayne’s basement,
only that’s not Wayne’s basement. Isn’t that weird?”

But was it – actually.. A true haiku??
IT CAN BE ARGUED.. That the pattern could be still valid as ” short-longer-short” and that
the exact number of syllables doesn’t matter.
Okay…
I’M GONNA GO PROFESSOR MATT ON YOU.. BUCKLE UP.
IF YOU WANT TO GO THE PURIST ROUTE..
THE THOUSAND YEAR OLD TRADITIONAL HAIKU..

I’m pretty sure Wayne would think of a haiku as just a poem with the 3 lines
in a 5-7-5 syllable pattern,THEREFORE…. Garth’s statement could be arranged as such:

I mean we’re looking
down on Wayne’s basement, only
that’s not Wayne’s basement

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT…

Waynes World Haiku Myth…
NOT BUSTED. So Now you know
Hey Man. You’re welcome.

Now go back and count THOSE syllables, son.
Because THAT  was a haiku.
